How does the study work?
Together with local residents and environmental specialists, we are building a clearer picture of the Inch sub-catchment (part of the Ahare River catchment), so we can better protect our river and its rich biodiversity.
The project brings together local knowledge and scientific research in three stages:
1. Talking with the community: meetings and conversations to gather local observations and priorities,
2. Fieldwork: surveys of the river, its wildlife, and its condition,
3. A final report: pulling everything together - along with existing research - to make practical recommendations for looking after the river long-term.
Where we are now
Our first community meeting took place at Castletown National School over the summer.
Fieldwork and conversations with the community are continuing through the summer, ahead of a full report due at the end of September 2026, which will be published on our website.
